2022 'Don't Quit Your Day Job' Mataro Blend
This is my first year making this red blend and it was a doozy. My most challenging lot yet, the Mataro took its sweet time to finish fermentation. This wine gave me several grey hairs but I learned A LOT through making it. Sometimes the most challenging ferments end up being the most fun to drink. It’s light bodied, aromatic, juicy, and complex. Perfectly paired with Thanksgiving dinner or any other festive occasion with loved ones.
‘Don’t Quit Your Day Job’ is a cheeky homage to the behind the scenes hustle I sustain in order to keep this business afloat.
This blend is made up of mostly Mataro (aka Mourvedre for you grape nerds) from Amador County with some Grenache, Syrah, and more Mataro from the beautiful Cotes de Cailloux estate vineyard in the Sonoma Valley.
The grapes were harvested on September 9th, 2022 in the middle of a heatwave. Fermented whole cluster in a stainless steel tank for a few days, then pressed off the skins to give it a light and juicy feel. The wine was bottled on July 13th 2023.
